Strange…just after reading this post I all of a sudden have the urge to buy yards of pom poms in every color of the rainbow. There will be pom poms on everything when I get done. Seriously though, I love this idea! It’s simple, adorable, and spices up something that I’m using a lot of now!

Oh, how I wish I had a sewing machine. Oh, how I wish I’d be able to use it if I did have one. I actually received a sewing machine for Christmas 20-25 years ago (I had envisioned myself whipping up handmade Halloween costumes for my darling daughter and son — yes, I know what a dreamer I was!). I put the box on the dining room table, opened it up, and pulled out the sewing machine. Then I dug out the owner’s manual, couldn’t find the English instructions (there were at least six languages in the darned thing), and set it aside.

Next, I stared at the machine and began to have an anxiety attack because all of the dials and buttons looked so scary. I decided that I must be missing something, so I looked in the box for the little fairy that would operate all those dials and buttons. I couldn’t find her, but I did find the Foot Pedal and screamed in horror. “WHAT??? Sewing machines still need these??? I thought foot pedals were considered vintage relics by now! I can’t pay attention to the needle and fabric AND push a pedal At the Same Time!!!”

Since no one was paying any attention to me at the time, I toughed out the anxiety attack and put everything back in the box, then hid the box way in the back of the Christmas tree. After we took down the tree, I stealthily carried the box to the cellar… where after many years it was ruined when the cellar flooded. The only thing I regret about the demise of the machine is that I wasn’t honest with my husband and suggested that he return it immediately. I didn’t want to hurt his feelings at the time, but he’s not stupid, and he did eventually notice that I wasn’t “whipping up” so much as a sachet with the sewing machine, much less Halloween costumes for the kids.

    Anyway……………..

I do loooove the pom pom trim on the beach towel!!! How fun these would be for girls to bring to a pool party… I can almost hear the squeals of delight (and maybe a little envy!) from their friends! Thanks, LiZ, for sharing your fun idea. I’ll be sure to pass it along to my machine-sewing friends! xoxo
