Deck the halls, and rooms and today….kitchens…with boughs of holly and super adorable wreaths! We are getting out our Christmas decor and starting with making our kitchens look festive and oh so bright! Bev from Flamingo Toes is visiting today and showing how easy and so much fun it is to add a little holiday cheer to our kitchen cabinets. These fun wreaths would also look amazing on the back of chairs, in your windows or just about anywhere! Enjoy!
Hello Ribbon Retreat readers! My name is Bev and I blog over at Flamingo Toes.
I’m so excited to be here today and share a project I’ve been wanting to do for the longest time. I have always loved the look of those pretty little wreaths on kitchen cabinets at Christmas time. I just never had a kitchen I wanted to put them up in. We moved this summer and I’m super excited that I have a place to hang these pretty wreaths!
I was originally thinking I’d do boxwood wreaths – but those little puppies are pricey! Also, you can’t tell exactly in these photos, but the cabinets are green. So I thought something else might show up better. I made up these super easy grapevine and felt wreaths and I love the way they turned out.
I’ve hung them with this gorgeous moonstitch ribbon and decorated them with a pretty sheer bow – aren’t they fun?
These are super easy – here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 1/2″ wide Moonstitch Ribbon – red with white trim
- 5/8″ Sheer Wired Ribbon – red
- White Felt – amount depends on how many wreaths you’re making but I got about 2 wreaths out of 1 square of felt
- 6″ Grapevine Wreath
- Hot Glue/Glue Gun
Begin by cutting lots of felt leafs. I used about 33 leaves on each wreath.
Glue the leaves on an overlapping pattern on the top half of the wreath.
Create a bow with the wired ribbon for the top of the wreath. I love wire ribbon – it makes you look like a ribbon ninja and cute bows are so easy to make. Glue the bow to the top of the wreath.
Cut a length of ribbon for hanging the wreath. I wanted my wreaths about 2/3’s of the way down so my lengths are 19″ but you’ll want to check yours. Leave enough to overlap onto the back of the door about 1″.
I didn’t want to put pins in my cabinets and I was having trouble getting the ribbon to stick to anything. I came up with a cool trick! I put a layer of glue on the top back side of the ribbon, about 1/2″ down. Let the glue dry completely. This makes the perfect spot for using a command strip on.
You can put a command strip on top of the glue and stick that to your cabinet. Super easy!
Now just repeat for as many wreaths as you’d like!
I hope you give them a try!
