One of the cutest things about my hubby is that he is way laid back about certain things and super particular about others. Two things he is particular about this time of year is that our Christmas tree is always placed right in front of our big window at the front of our house (which requires a whole furniture/living room transformation…LOL) and that the presents are wrapped in coordinating, holiday wrapping paper, that looks fancy and so pretty. I laugh every year when we get to the tree decorating and present wrapping. He is amazing, and I think today’s project by the incredible Bev from Flamingo Toes, is just for him! Bev…I thank you for this and so will my hubby! Enjoy this fun, festive and incredibly innovative ribbon project that will take your gifts from holly to Hallelujah!
Hello Ribbon Retreat readers! It’s Bev from Flamingo Toes, back with a fun and super easy Christmas project for you!
I was browsing The Ribbon Retreat store a few months ago and came across this really fabulous wide twill ribbon. And I just knew that it would be perfect for customized ribbons!
Ok seriously – these were so fun to make! The possibilities are endless – you can create funny ribbons, sweet ribbons, ribbons for each person in the family, whatever you want! Let me tell you, I have a ton more ideas. Ribbons that say “My Favorite Sister” (I only have one), ribbons that say “This took forever to make.” and lots more! But let’s get started with these!
I couldn’t resist doing a mix of silly and cute – that’s just how I roll.
Here’s all you need to make our own!
- Twill Ribbons – I used Red and Tan
- Iron on Transfer paper – something that will iron on light and dark fabrics or a combination pack
- Computer, Printer, Iron, Scissors
Begin by designing your patterns. If you like mine you can download the files here – Tan Ribbon Phrases and Red Ribbon Phrases. Make sure you check your printer settings for iron on transfer paper as well as the instructions for the transfer paper you use. Some papers will want you to reverse the image, you can usually do this in your printer settings. Print out your papers.
Trim around the phrases as close as you can. Most transfer paper leaves a small imprint around the design so get as close as you can to the lettering. Place your design on your trim.
Always do a test transfer first. Mine took significantly less time on than the instructions said. Transfer your designs to the ribbon.
Repeat as often as you like per ribbon!
I made up a few different styles. For the darker ribbons, I put my phrases on a red background because of the way the dark image transfer paper worked – it didn’t peel away, but transferred instead the whole image to the ribbon.
Now you can wrap up your presents with your fun custom ribbon!
I hope you give it a try – it is so easy and fun!
Thank you Bev! I will certainly be giving this amazing project a try! My kiddos and family would LOVE their presents wrapped in fun ribbon made just for them, and I like I mentioned above, my hubby would too! You could even reuse this ribbon next year and the next, if removed from those special packages carefully! This great project would also be fabulous all year long. Get any color of twill ribbon you need to make a personalized birthday, baby shower, Father’s or Mother’s Day or a just because gift. How fun would that be? Your family and friends would think you were AMAZING…well, more than they already do! Hehe!
