Felt Banner Ornaments

It’s here, it’s really here…Christmas tree decorating time! My little family and I were so excited to get our tree up and our house all festive we couldn’t even wait until December to get our home full of holiday cheer! Our tree and other decor was up November 30th, and we couldn’t be more excited. Is your home decorated and your tree up? Although my tree is up and full of decorations galore, I can’t wait to add these adorable Felt Banner Ornaments, by Amy from Ameroonie Designs, to it. I LOVE felt and these ornaments couldn’t be more festive and perfect for adding even more holiday cheer to my home! Enjoy!

And since they are simple and quick, you can make up a whole bunch in no time.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Are you ready to get crafting?

1. Cut out rectangles that measure 2 1/2″ X 6″.
2. On one short side, use the water soluble marker to make a mark that is 1/2″ up and centered (1 1/4″ in).  Connect that mark to the two bottom corners.
3. Fold the rectangle in half so the short sides line up and cut along the drawn line.
4. Unfold the banner.

Now is the time to embellish your banners.  I marked guidelines and wrote out the words I wanted to stitch.  Make sure you do not embellish higher than 2 1/2″ from bottom.  Add buttons or resins.

Once the banners are embellished you are ready to sew them together.  Fold the banner in half again.  Sew around all four sides of banner.  Sew close to the edge on all but the folded edge- on the folded edge use a 3/8″ seam allowance.
Cut the dowels in thirds to create 4″ long pieces.  If you are using a miter or power saw- I have a tip for you- tape a few together and make sure the tape covers where you will be cutting- this will help keep the dowels from splintering too much.  You will still need a bit of sandpaper to smooth out the edges once they are cut.

Slide the dowel through the pocket created on the folded end of the banner and tie a length of ribbon to both ends to create a hanging loop. *Note: the buttons I used in these samples are ones I had in my stash- but the resins and buttons available at The Ribbon Retreat are darling!
