Football Shirt - {The Ribbon Retreat Blog}

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

We’re just headed out to our family’s house for some yummy Thanksgiving dinner and lots of fun.

Every year I love to dress according to the holiday.
Last year I made my toddler a Turkey Hand Shirt. It was adorable!

This year I decided to dress the boys out of the ordinary in something they can wear more than once. 🙂

These super cute Football Shirts are SO easy to make and the kids can wear them to football games, on game day, you can do the colors according to your favorite football team, so many possibilities!

– Supplies –

7/8″ White Solid Grosgrain Ribbon
Coordinating Thread
Shirt or Onesie
Stabilizer (optional)

I chose a brown shirt. I got it at Walmart. The onesie I got at Hobby Lobby.

It really would be so cute to do your team colors.

Get your ribbon out and measure down the shirt.
For this 3T shirt, I measured 8 inches.

Then I cut the horizontal lines at 2 3/4″, just what looked right to me.

Seal your ribbon ends with your preferred method.

This next step is optional, but makes your shirt a higher quality.

Iron on a lite stabilizer to your ribbon.

Now pin your long strip to the middle of your shirt.

Sew the long strip to the shirt.
You can do this by hand as well.

Then pin and sew the short strips.

This is a really easy project that makes such a cute statement!
And I love that it’s a craft I can do for my boys! YAY! 🙂

Very cute! It’s always so hard to think of stuff for boys. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks. This is a great idea! Sewing the ribbon on, will make it last through more than one child also. Did you wash your shirt first to make sure there wouldn’t be any shrinkage that would cause the wrinkle to pucker? Were they both 100% cotton? Both shirts I mean, I know the ribbon is not.

Hi Sherrie! I didn’t wash the shirts first. I am sure that would be a great idea. 🙂 They got pretty dirty yesterday, so I will let you know if they are okay or not. I left out the part where I couldn’t find a brown shirt so I dyed one and it turned out terrible. Then I found out that Hobby Lobby had them so I had my husband swing by and get one and then I made it Thanksgiving morning (the onesie). I do suggest washing first, I just didn’t have time. 🙂

This is so creative! American football t shirts really don’t have age requirements. The shirt is as cute as the toddlers. Nice one!
