Halloween is right around the corner, if you can believe it…where does the time go? Are your little trick or treaters ready for their big night out collecting candy and spooooooking all of your neighbors and friends? If you have a little sweetie who is wanting to be a cute little kitty cat, Amy from Ameroonie Designs is sharing the most adorable Kitty Cat Hat around that will complete your kitties costume! This fun hat is perfect for dress up too or for an everyday hat for all of those little pretend kitties pouncing around your house! Enjoy!

Hi! I’m Amy from Ameroonie Designs and I’m here today to share with you a super simple costume idea for Halloween. In just a few minutes and with a few supplies you can make this fancy kitty costume.

Supplies:
Black Felt
Black Kufi Hat
Flowers – I used an Ostrich Plume, Black Polka Dot Rosette, Orange Polka Dot Flower and Black Satin Rose Flower
(not shown) bobby pins, clips, hot glue gun and glue

Start by arranging the flowers to your liking on the ostrich plume. Use the glue gun to glue them in place.

Cut a small piece of felt – approx. 1 1/2″ X 1/2″. Glue the two short sides down to the back of the ostrich plume to create a strap to clip the flower to the hat. (alternatively you could just glue the clip to the back of the flower)
Now it’s time to make the ears.

Take a 2″ X 6″ piece of felt and fold in half to create a doubled piece that is 2″ X 3″. Cut out a rounded triangle shape like the one in the picture – it doesn’t need to be perfect – we’re keeping this simple, right?
Next cut out two rectangles of felt approx. 1″ X 1 1/2″.

Working with one ear at a time, use your glue gun to create a “U” shape on the felt rectangle. While the glue is still warm attach the bottom of the rounded triangle, lining it up with the glue to create a dimensional ear. Repeat for the second ear.
Cut two rectangles 3/4″ X 1 1/2″ from the felt. Put glue along the two long sides and glue to the bottom of the ears to create a channel to run the bobby pin through. Trim the excess felt from the edges of the ears, making sure to not cut through the glue that created the channels.

You could always glue the ears to the hat, but I wanted to be able to use the hat and flower without the ears. Now the hat is ready to go.

To finish your costume you can use a black shirt and a tutu – or just a black sweat suit. Personally, I think the tutu is just the icing on the cake.

You could also make a tail out of felt, but my fancy kitty didn’t want one. 🙂
I hope you have fun crafting up a very fancy Halloween.
xoxo,
Amy
