How to Cover a Travel Wipes Case

How To Cover A Travel Wipes Case - {The Ribbon Retreat Blog}

Very soon I’m going to be an aunt again! My sister is having a baby boy! I just love boys! There are a lot of fun things to do for them as well.

Something every mom needs in her diaper bag is wipes! It is so fun to have a covered wipes case to pull out of your bag and make others jealous! Heehee

–Supplies–

Travel wipes case
Fabric
3/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon
Batting or felt
Fabric Mod Podge (Optional)
Hot Glue Gun

The fabric I used for my wipes case is Lime Argyle from the Urban Zoology line by Robert Kaufman.   I cut out a turtle from Grass Turtles from the same line.   I love that little turtle! 🙂

Before you cover your wipes case with fabric you will want some sort of padding underneath.
You can use batting for a puffier case or felt for a flatter look.
I got crazy and used batting on the top and felt on the bottom.

Whatever you decide to use cut 2 pieces (one for the top and one for the bottom) to 9″x5″.

After you have cut your padding, put a good amount of glue on the top of the wipes case.

Then put the padding over the top and trim the edges.

Do the same thing to the bottom.

Now cut 2 pieces of fabric to 9″ x 5″.

Put some glue on the back of the wipes case (close to the hinge).  Place the fabric over the glue.  Wait for it to dry and then pull it tight and glue it to the other side.

For the sides fold it over and glue it down.  Don’t worry if it doesn’t look perfect.   It will be covered with ribbon.

After the fabric is glued on, cut and seal 2 pieces of 3/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon to about 26″ long.
I used Dark Navy.

Start gluing your ribbon on at the back.  Glue a little ribbon at a time going around the wipes case until you overlap your starting point.

Do this to the top and bottom.

At this point you could be done!

Or you can add something to the top to make it even cuter!

I appliqued a turtle to mine with Fabric Mod Podge. You could glue Buttons, Flowers, Ric Rac or anything you want to personalize it.

Don’t worry, The Ribbon Retreat has all these things available!

Make one for yourself, or make a few to have on hand for gifts!

Maybe there is even something else you could put in there besides wipes?
It could be used for organization too!

I have wanted to make these for a long time, but I can’t find any place that sells just the plastic case. Would you know of a website these could be purchased from or would the $1 store carry them?

    Thanks,
    Shelby

I LOVE this fabric! I have made these and they are super cute. Shelby, check wal-mart for the cases. you’ll have to buy wipes in it but you can buy the wipe cases individually not a whole box of them. You can ALWAYS use the wipes for other things.

@Shelby- I buy the Huggies brans travel wipes cases at Walmart, CVS, or Walgreen ( I prefer shopping at Target but they don’t carry them). The buggies brand come with wipes in side but I remove them while I work on the case then add them back before I give the gift. I monogram mine also and usually use decorator fabric or
duck fabric which is thicker and doesn’t require the batting however there are more pattern and colors choices with regular cotton fabric..

Thanks for sharing this tutorial! Everyone I’ve ever gave one to had LOVED them 🙂
