Mini Halloween Bows

Halloween season is officially here, and I couldn’t be more excited. I am not a fan of all of the scary Halloween activities, decor and costumes (yes, I am a big whimp!), but I sure do love all the cutesy Halloween things that make you smile and maybe just a little spooked inside. LOL! Today, the talented and so fun Mary from Little Mama Bowtique is sharing some very cutesy Mini Halloween Bows that you are sure to love. The festive ribbon she uses is so much fun and perfect for cute little piggy tails all month long! Enjoy!

Hello all, Mary Conway back from Little Mama Bowtique! One of my pet peeves in life is wasting anything, especially those precious craft supplies!! Today’s tutorial is the perfect use for those scraps of ribbon you might have laying around. I call them mini bows and they are perfect to have in any little girl’s bow collection!!

Supplies you will need:

Mix of 7/8″ ribbon you would like to make bows with, you only need 14 inch strips of ribbon, making this perfect to use your scraps!! You will also need 3/8″ ribbon to line your clips with and to make centers with, a glue gun & glue sticks, clips, and a needle & thick thread.

Halloween Supplies
Start off by cutting your ribbon into 14″ strips.

I do not use a template for these bows, because they are small enough to just make in your hands. Start off by forming an “S” shape with the ribbon.

Take your needle and thread and sew down the center weaving in and out.

Pull your thread tight, wrap around the center several times, sew from top to bottom and knot in back around center thread. Cut “V” ends and heat seal with your lighter.

Pick out a 3/8″ ribbon you would like to use for your center. I remember I had a bucket of sparkle/glitter ribbon to make fun centers with so I used that for a few of them. Tie a knot in your ribbon and place that knot on top of bow, connecting ends in back of bow with glue.

For orders I typically attach them to lined alligator clips, but this set I made specifically for my daughter so I placed them on little plastic barrettes, because she has been cursed with super fine hair. If you decide to go this route just make sure you use E6000 to line the clips in ribbon and then you can attach your bows with hot glue.

These make great little “bang clips” or a little addition to any hair do.

I hope you have fun making your own sets!

Aww, how adorable! One would be cute all by itself, but two would be extra-cute on little girls who have hair long enough for pigtails! And they look easy enough even for me to make! (And if I screw up, I’ve wasted only 14 inches of ribbon!)

Ooh! Wouldn’t a few of these, using a variety of Halloween ribbons, look adorable glued in a horizontal row on the top edge of a blank canvas tote bag (like the kind you can pick up at a craft store; I think they even come in black, especially this time of year)?! You could also add horizontal strips of the same ribbons (using fusible web tape), underneath the row of bows, cut to the width of the bag. Or just glue one bow on the upper left-hand corner of the bag and adhere vertical strips of ribbon, cut to the “height” of the bag, next to the bow, across the front, with a shorter strip one underneath the bow.

Hmm. I don’t think that makes any sense, except to me. Oh, well, the bows are still perfect for use in hair!!

Thank you, Mary, for another tun tutorial! xoxo
