Good Morning Readers! Guess what…it’s another fabulous Blogger Competition month…WAHOOOO! Today, we are kicking off a brand Blogger Competition with 3 crazy talented ladies who are going to totally wow you with their incredible AND patriotic projects. Let Freedom Ring, peeps! I have a few of these fabulous events scheduled this year, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about the competitors. We have some returning champs, some returning bloggers and some brand new peeps who have never heard about our friendly little competition until they received their invitation to compete! So fun right? So here is the low down…at the beginning of this year, I invited 3 amazing and super talented bloggers to compete this month in a red, white and blue themed head to head competition. They all said YES! After I received word that they were in for a little challenge, I picked out and sent them a package full of supplies and goodies from The Ribbon Retreat that they had to use in their project. They had NO idea what was being sent to them until their package arrived on their doorstep. Fun, fun stuff! After they opened their box of patriotic goodies, the games began and it was then up to them to create a super fun and super innovative project that you, our incredible readers, would LOVE! So for the next 3 Tuesdays, including today, I will post these competing projects and on Tuesday, June 28th YOU, lovely readers, get to choose whose project you love the most and help crown our winner!
Are you ready to see the supplies they were sent?
I love this competition and it is so fun to see what my incredible blogger buddies come up with! So, without further ado…let’s meet our first competitor! Her name is Bev, and she blogs over at Flamingo Toes! This talented lady has been one of our Contributors for a few years now and always has really, really great and super fun projects to share with us! You are going to love her, and her patriotic project! Good Luck Bev AND readers…enjoy our first project in this red, white and blue Blogger Competition!
Hello Ribbon Retreat Readers! I’m so excited to be here today! My name is Bev and I blog over at Flamingo Toes.
When we received our box of patriotic supplies for this challenge, I wasn’t sure what to make right away! There were so many fun options. I just started laying things out on the table and they all looked so fun together. So this cute Patriotic Hoop Wall Art was born! It kind of reminds me of fireworks!
The hoops are made with this pretty sparkly tulle and a combination of flowers and little feathers. They are so easy to put together!
The hoops are decorated with little ribbon streamers and pom pom garlands. Like the streamers on fireworks!
Here’s the simple tutorial to put together your own Patriotic Hoop Wall Art!
- 2 Red Marigold Chiffon Flowers
- 2 Navy Chateau Lace Flowers
- 1 White Poppy Flower
- 6 Marabou Puffs – 2 red, 2 white, 2 navy
- White Stretchy Lace
- Diamond White Glimmer Tulle
- Assorted Patriotic Ribbons
- Embroidery Hoops – 1 oval, three 3″, two 4″, three 5″
- Hot Glue
- White Yarn
- Stick for hanging
Begin by assembling your hoops. For each hoop, cut 3 strips of tulle larger than the hoop size. Lay the strips over the bottom hoop of the set and cut a piece of lace a little wider than the hoop. Place the lace on top of the tulle, so it runs horizontally with the way the hoop will hang. Place everything inside the embroidery hoop and tighten the hoop as tight as you can.
Trim the lace and tulle around the hoop right up to the back side of the hoop.
Glue a flower or marabou onto the center of the hoop. Repeat for all the hoops in the wall art.
Lay out the hoops in the arrangement you like.
Use hot glue to glue the hoops together where they touch.
Once your hoops are all assembled, start cutting strips of ribbon to hang down below them. Glue the ribbon in place along the bottom of the hoops.
To add a little texture, create a few small pom poms and add them to a length of yarn. Glue this in place among the ribbons. Or if you don’t want to make your own, pom pom trim would be super cute too!
Cut two lengths of red ribbon and tie the ends in a bow around your stick. Glue the other ends to the back of the left hoop. Repeat for the right hoop, to hang your wall hanging. And you’re all set for the Fourth of July!
Thanks so much for having me – I hope you give it a try!
