One of my favorite memories as a little girl, was getting an envelope full of pennies when my parents went to an annual outing in Salt Lake City. We got to stay with my super awesome and super fun grandparents and without fail, I would buy pencils, markers, crayons or anything I thought would work for my love for doodling….oh, how could I forget the last couple of pennies I would save for delicious gummy worms! Yummy! Anyway, I loved writing implements a ton…I mean a TON, which also means I had a TON of them as well. So needless to say, as a child I would have loved, loved, loved a cute Pencil Box Pouch just like this adorable little beauty the talented Elizabeth from Simple Simon and Co. is sharing for her A-Z Series project. Any guesses on what her letter is??? Hehehe…nope, it is “Q” for Quilted Pencil Box Pouch….hehehehe, gottcha!!! Enjoy!
Hi everyone! I am Elizabeth, one half of the duo of sister-in-laws that blog at Simple Simon and Company. We are two girls who married brothers and now have the same name. We also have one hobby that has led to one mission, “to teach the world to sew!” Mostly, because we love it so much!
My letter of the day is Q…and Q stands for Quilting in my world. But it’s also back to school and one thing on all of our family’s back to school lists are pencil pouches! So, this year, Q stands for Quilted Pencil Box Pouches that can bring a bit of handmade love into the classroom. 😉
Want to make one too? Here’s what you will need:
And here’s how you make it. There are tons of tutorials out there for these box pouches, but I am a big fan of hidden seams…so this one has a separate lining that will enclose all those seams.
And then once you make one…you will want to make about 10 more! They are fast and easy and would also make the perfect gifts for any person at any age–you can fill them with just about anything. 😉
Thanks for having us here today! ~Elizabeth

Ok this is a really stupid question but do you need four outer pieces to create a “sandwich” with the batting or just two? if you have two, do you just have one side fabric and the other is batting?
Hi Melinda! Thank you so much for your question and this is totally not a stupid question. To create your sandwich, lay your outer piece of fabric, right side, face down on your table, then lay your batting on top of that and finally lay your inner piece of fabric, right side up, on top of your batting. You can see in the photo for step 1 the gray circle fabric is on the top and in the photo for step 5 the other side of the sandwich, the zig zag fabric. Does this help? Thank you Melinda! Good luck with your Pencil Box Pouch and Happy Sewing! Have a great day! Michelle 🙂
