Ribbon Covered Stretchy Headband

I am always so impressed by how incredibly innovative our Contributors are! I mean…really? Who thinks about putting our awesome fold over elastic (FOE) in the middle of a piece of ribbon to create a super cute and super handy headband? This headband is awesome and made out of two of my favorite products in the world! Join Becky from Patchwork Posse as she shows us how to create this fun and fabulous Ribbon Covered Stretchy Headband! Genius!! Enjoy!

Hello everyone! I’m Becky from Patchwork Posse. I’m here to share a project to use your small bits of ribbon with. I blog about lots of easy sewing projects, and I’m the home of the Yearly Round Robin.

Hair gets in your way. There are stretchy headbands that you can buy….but they don’t always come in the colors or style that you’d like.

This is an easy way to customize your own stretchy headband.

Materials needed:

Ribbon- 1″ wide

1) Measure the headband – lay on flat surface and measure end to end, double the number.

2) Subtract 1 1/2″ from the measurement.

3) Cut the ribbon the length of the measurement.

4) Sew the ends of the ribbon together, making a loop or circle.

4) Fold the ribbon in half and slip the headband inside.

5) Sew along the outside edge of the ribbon- this will be tricky. When you are making adjustments, leave your needle in the down position to secure.

* Make sure you are not sewing the headband in the seam! It will be loose inside the ribbon so it can still stretch.

6) Continue around the headband, the ribbon will be shorter than the headband so it can look scrunchy. Work around the whole ribbon, making adjustments along the way.

Because the ribbon is a bit stiffer than the headband it won’t have as much stretch. It’s great as a cover up on top of other plain pony tail holders too.
