This Ruffled Headband is one of the easiest hair accessories and perfect for girls coming out of the bow stage. Make one, or many!, for your girl or for gifts.
Hi, I’m Jessica from Mom 4 Real. I am so excited to share the easiest hair accessory that I have ever made! I have a little girl that is outgrowing hair bows and ribbons, so I have been trying to come up with some cute accessories for her. Here is the simple Ruffled Headband Tutorial.
I started with Yellow and White Riley Blake Chevron fabric, a plastic headband, 1/8″ white grosgrain ribbon, and white thread.
All supplies can be purchased here at The Ribbon Retreat! Fantastic prices, service, and shipping!
Wrap your headband with the ribbon. Just put a dab of hot glue on the inside bottom of your plastic headband, place the end of the ribbon on hot glue, and hold until it dries (20 seconds). Then, wrap the ribbon all the way around the headband, and secure with hot glue when you get to the end. If a visual will help, The Ribbon Retreat has a great video on how to wrap a headband with ribbon.
Cut two pieces of fabric 4 inches X 12 inches. Sew a ruffle lengthwise right down the middle of each piece. Leave the edges raw…it gives the headband a shabby, sweet look. If you don’t know how to sew a ruffle, you can follow my Sew A Ruffle Tutorial.
Hot glue one of the ruffles onto the headband. I like to place mine to the side a little instead of directly on top.
Put a line of hot glue down the middle of the first ruffle and place the second ruffle right on top of that one.
That’s it… a super cute, really easy ruffled headband!
Here is my sweet girl wearing one that I made for her using Riley Blake Rouge Dots fabric!

I absolutely love this headband. It’s super easy and so cute! I think after you’ve made a ton for you or your girls, this would be a fantastic gift!

Very cute, Jessica!
Love it!!! TY Hmmm wonder just how long it would take to do by hand? lol I’m gonna try. (no sewing machine)
Susan, you can definitely do it by hand and it wouldn’t take long at all! Great idea! Have fun! – Shirley 🙂
You could do this with wide ribbon too! I might be having a go at that.
Great tutorial, Jessica! The twins will love this headband!
Have a great day rock star!
