Sunday Sneak Peak

I am almost done with the top of this quilt!

I need to iron and sew the train engine and all the shapes around it at the bottom.

I am very happy with how that turned out! :)

I am not so sure about the Ric Rac though. I need your opinions!!

Do you think the color of the Ric Rac goes well with the colors in the quilt?

I got MEGA Ric Rac in Apple, which I love! But I am wondering if the color is too different from the other greens in the quilt.

If I do add the Ric Rac, should I add it along the seam of the two fabrics, or in the middle of the blue fabric?

Also, I am scared to death to quilt this with free motion quilting. I need a lot of practice before I tackle this quilt. Do you think it would look best with that type of quilting, or would a straight stitch quilting be cute too?

At 29 weeks pregnant, my decision skills are wavering. :)
I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you!

This is too cute! It’s just my opinion but I don’t think the rick rack matches well enought to use it. I would use red if I were gonna use any but I don’t think it really needs it.

Thank you for your response! The original pattern has ric rac so I thought I should try it. I didn’t even think about red… I will have to look into that!

I think ric rac would add another interesting dynamic to your adorable quilt. I agree with Lora, it’s not the right color of green. Red would be adorable. Just from experience, when using the jumbo or large ric rac you need to sew it down on both edges, not just down the middle. Otherwise, when it gets washed it will curl. I also like it best on both sides of the blue. Free motion would be nice and remember the baby won’t notice if it’s not perfect. He will love it!!

I’m actually doing the same pattern with the turtle and i”m stuck at the quilting part–I thought about ditch stitching in the seams because I have no experience with quilting other than tying — or pay someone to finish it for me. And I think red would look better too

Keisha, I am seriously considering paying someone to do it! lol but it is really expensive to do that, so I just have to try it out. I will probably be trying it this next week. I am going to do a bunch of practicing on scrap fabric. Do you have a free motion foot or a darning foot?

Lynn, thank you for your comment! I will try some red and see how that looks. And thanks for the reminder that the baby won’t notice if it’s not perfect. I have to start trying somewhere. :)

I like the ric rac in the center of the blue fabric, whichever color you decide to use. I think the green looks good though but I’m not one that has to be super matchy.
