Sunday Sneak Peak

This quilt is sure coming along! Yay!

I went up to The Ribbon Retreat shop last week JUST so I could see the Ric Rac in person.

While I was trying to decide between the red and green, I decided, why not both!? Then I’ll never have regrets of choosing one over the other. :)

I went with the Cranberry Jumbo Ric Rac for the top, and the Chartreuse Jumbo Ric Rac for the bottom.

To sew them on, I ripped the seams on the borders and pinned the Ric Rac along the seam of the two fabrics and under the border.

Then I sewed a straight line down the Ric Rac. Because of curling after washing, I sewed a curved zig zag along both edges. You can’t even see the stitches on the zig zag ones. If you are really wanting the stitch to be invisible, don’t do a straight line down the Ric Rac. Skip that part and do just zig zags on the edges.

Then I sewed up the edges of the border where I had ripped it and the Ric Rac was all attached.

As of tonight, this quilt is basted and ready for quilting! Now I just need to practice the meandering stitch with my Free Motion foot. I have three weeks until Little Guy’s birthday so hopefully I can get it down before then. :)

This is looking so awesome! Your boy is one lucky critter :) I love the ric rac and just the colors and design you’ve chosen. Good luck with the quilting. I’d love to hear all about it. I’ve only tried it once, and the free motion stuff did not go so well.
