I don’t know about you, but I am loving this series. I can’t believe we are already on the letter “E”! Where is the time going? Anyway, are you getting as inspired with these alphabet projects to get out that sewing machine, or needle and thread, or whatever supplies you need to get crafting, as I am? Well get ready to be inspired yet again, because this “E” project is measuring “E”normous on the Richter Scale of super cute crafts!! My sweet and adorable friend Bev, from Flamingo Toes, is sharing this Embroidered Zipper Pouch with us today that is so fun, simple and the perfect addition to your kiddo’s school supply checklist! This pouch is even perfect for your desk and work supplies, so let’s get sewing! Enjoy!
Hello Ribbon Retreat Readers! My name is Bev and I blog over at Flamingo Toes.
I am so excited to be here as part of the Back to School A to Z Series! For my letter I chose E – for Embroidery. It’s pretty much one of my favorite things. I love how much fun a touch of embroidery adds to a project! It’s such a cute way to add a personalized look to your projects too.
Today I’m sharing this Sweet Deer Embroidered Zipper Pouch – it’s perfect for holding all those school supplies! And it’s all dressed up with the cutest little deer embroidery.
I am sharing a free pattern for this darling little deer too – she would be so cute on lots of different projects!
Zipper Pouches are so fun to sew up and they go together really quickly too – so let’s get started!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 3 fat quarters – I used the Bonjour Mon Ami line
- 1/4 yd fusible fleece
- fusible webbing
- disappearing ink marker
- 1 – 14″ zipper
- embroidery floss
- Deer Embroidery Pattern
Out of your fabric, cut a piece of fabric 5″ x 13″ for the left panel on the front, 9″ x 13″ for the right panel on the front, and a piece 8″ x 13″ for the back.
You will also need two 8″ x 13″ pieces for the lining and 2 pieces of fusible fleece that are also 8″ x 13″.
You’ll also need to cut out one more section of fabric out for your deer embroidery. You want it to fit in an embroidery hoop. Trace the little deer design with the disappearing marker.
Stitch around the deer with a back stitch. If you need help with the stitches, I have embroidery stitching tutorials on my blog. Trace the oval line on the pattern around the deer and cut out the piece. Iron a piece of fusible webbing to the back of the embroidery piece, then iron the oval in place on your right front fabric panel. Stitch around the oval with a small zigzag stitch.
Sew the right front panel to the left front panel. Iron a piece of fusible fleece to the wrong side of the fabrics. Trace on your frame for the deer, then embroider in the frame with a back stitch. Add a running stitch on either side of the seam as well, for something a little “extra”.
Iron the remaining fusible fleece to the wrong side of the back piece.
Make a little sandwich by laying the zipper face down along the top edge of the front panel. Lay the lining fabric over this, face down. Line up the top edges. Using a zipper foot sew along the top edge, sewing the front, zipper and lining together.
Repeat for the other side of the zipper.
Fold the two front pieces together and the two lining pieces together. Sew around all the lining and outside pieces, leaving an opening for turning at the bottom of the lining fabrics. Make sure your zipper is open before you sew everything up – otherwise you will have some fun turning everything right side out. Clip the corners.
Turn the zipper pouch right side out. Tuck the lining into the pouch. Sew the opening closed. Press everything so it looks nice.
That’s all there is to it! You now have a super cute little zipper pouch for school, makeup, or even as a gift!
I hope you give it a try!
I don’t think you can ever have enough Zipper Pouches just like this adorable embroidered deer one…can I get an “AMEN”?!?
