Thanksgiving Table Setting

Hello friends, it’s Barbara from Chase the Star, I’m so excited to be here once again!

This time we’re kicking off the Thanksgiving planning season with a few items from the Ribbon Retreat. Thanksgiving often gets forgotten, sandwiched in between Halloween and Christmas. It is overlooked when it comes to design. While the dinner is of utmost importance, in my opinion, presentation and decor are key elements to make a memorable Thanksgiving experience!

This year I’m going with a simple white palette for the Thanksgiving table setting.

My table setting is crisp yet warm. A little glam, and a little country, if you will.

To add warmth to the ‘white’ setting I went with cream instead. True white would be too stark for this cozy holiday, don’t you think? Using simple items I had around the house, a few inexpensive finds at the craft store, and at the Ribbon Retreat, this White Table Setting was put together easily, and quite beautifully if I do say so myself (ahem)!

How to put together a simple white table setting

for Thanksgiving:

Materials:

3 yards of Muslin in ‘Natural’ {this will depend on the size of your table}

Beaded Pendants {one for each setting}

Satin Ribbon {I ordered a 5 yd. role in ‘Candlelight’}

Jute Twine

Pine cones

Real or faux pumpkins and or gourds {think ‘natural’ colors like white, pale greens, etc.}

Get creative with silver or white accessories like pitchers, bowls, etc.

The beaded pendants have a chalkboard side to them, you can add your guest’s name and they can serve as a placeholder! In our case, I simply wrote our last initial. The pendants are hung from a pine cone with jute twine {tied in a knot around the back}.

Muslin is so versatile! I use it all year round, so instead of sewing {or even ‘no-sewing‘ in my case}, I decided to cut the material evenly in two {save 1 yard for the napkins}, and simply folded it over to approximately 18″ in width. Then I folded it in place {went over it with the iron} and overlapped it in the center of the table.

To add a subtle ‘bling’ to the ‘runner’ I ran the satin ribbon over the top of both pieces. The ribbon runs all the way to the ends, and is held in place with some double sided tape!

To make the napkins, I cut out squares, folded them into a rectangle, and using some fabric glue, I folded the edges and glued them together {find a tutorial for using fabric glue here}.

To add a little ‘country’ to the table setting, I wrapped the stem of the wine glasses in twine.
I love using mason jars for practically everything so for a little ambiance, I put votive candles in a small jar at each setting. The lids were removed, and I wrapped some of the satin ribbon around the top.
Lastly, I used the metal lids as coasters! Turn the lid upside down and the base of a standard wine glass fits perfectly {and catches drips}.

Now it’s time to accessorize! I topped a cupcake stand with faux pumpkins, gourds {this one was painted in platinum paint for a ‘dipped’ look}, pine cones, and old silver pitchers.

The plates are from a china set that I bought at a thrift store last year! I always find something amazing at the thrift shop.

With a little creativity and budget friendly materials, I am officially ready to welcome my family over for Thanksgiving dinner. Well, I guess I better start to plan the menu first!
