Cat Ribbon Sculpture

Do you believe in superstitions? Like, the one about the black cat crossing your path and possibly having a few years of bad luck? Well…if you do, you might just want to look away for just a quick second. Haha! Actually you won’t want to miss this fun and super festive project! Today, Cherie is sharing how to make a cute, CUUUTTE Cat Ribbon Sculpture that is just in time for Halloween! And don’t worry, there is no bad luck associated with this sweet little ribbon-rific kitty! Enjoy!

One of the things that comes to mind when I think of Halloween is black cats!  This ribbon sculpture is so easy and fun!  My daughter loved it as soon as she saw it.  She loves the whiskers and that is what she now affectionately calls her!

Orange Double Ruffle Cat Ribbon Sculpture Black Grosgrain
For this project you will need

  • 6 pieces of 7/8″ ribbon strips cut to 3 1/2″ and sealed
  • 2 Googly eyes
  • A little pre-made bow (I used 5/8″ Double Ruffle Ribbon)
  • Button, gem or pom pom for the nose (I ended up using a gem)
  • A lined clip
  • Hot glue gun
  • Three pieces of elastic cut to 1 1/2″ (whiskers)

Take one of your ribbons and fold it in half.

Open it up and you will see a crease.  This is the center.

DSCN0962
Crease another ribbon and make an X with the ribbons, matching up the creases.  Glue in place using hot glue.

DSCN0963
Make 3 X’s.

DSCN0968
Layer all the X’s and make sure there are no gaps in between the ribbons.

Glue on your eyes.

For the whiskers I used elastic for jewelry making. I used 3 pieces cut to 1 1/2″ and made an X with the 3rd one going straight across. Glue the elastic to the gem and then glue the gem underneath the eyes.

Glue the Cat to a lined clip and you’re done!

So easy right?!  You could make this with 3/8″ ribbon for a tiny “kitten”.  You could wear a “kitten” right in front or use it as the center of a boutique bow.

If I were a kitty, I would be purrrrring with delight at this adorable Cat Ribbon Sculpture! This festive cat is so cute and puurrrrrrfect for your Halloween attire! Thank you Cherie for sharing this fun Halloween project!
