Whenever I hear the word lace, my thoughts immediately head to vintage. I also picture gorgeous gowns worn by fancy ladies or lovely brides walking down the aisle. However, vintage gowns and wedding dresses are not even close to being the only way to wear and display the beauty of lace. In fact, today I am very excited to share some really easy and really pretty bows and headbands made from this exquisite product that sometimes gets overlooked and thought of as out of date.
Like I mentioned, these bows really are so easy to make. I just couldn’t help myself, there was no way I could get just one type of lace, so of course I had to grab about six…or was it eight. Anyway, you get my point…this stuff is stunning and so very fun to work with.
The first lace hair accessory I am going to share with you, is this fun Stretchy Lace Bow and Headband made with 2″ Stretchy Lace in Orange and Turquoise.
Before you cut any lace, simply lay your lace in front of you and fold in one side of your lace.
Fold the other (super long) end of lace in, slightly overlapping the other tail. Once you are happy with what will be the size of your bow, cut your lace. This is going to eliminate any waste.
Grab your needle and thread and with a knot at the end, start weaving your needle and thread in and out of the center of your lace. You could also place a small amount of hot glue right in the center of your tails to help secure your lace.
Once your needle is through the entire bow, carefully pull tight to create the gather that will make your bow.
Wrap your thread tightly around the center, while shaping. When thread no longer has any give, take a few stitches in the back and you are done with your cute little bow.
To create my headband, I used White Glitter Fold Over Elastic. Measure and cut your elastic. Hot glue ends together.
Cut a small piece of the elastic to wrap around the center of your bow and headband. Place a small amount of glue on the center of your bow to adhere small piece of elastic to it. Hot glue bow to the top of the headband (where you glued your ends together. Wrap ends of elastic around headband and glue.
Cute, cute, cute!
I used our orange stretchy lace to create another headband, but this time I used the lace as the headband as well and am in LOVE!
These headbands are perfect for a brand new bundle of joy all the way up to your fashionable teen who loves to wear fun accessories in her hair.
The lace I used for my second and third bows was Evelyn in red and light blue, Laura in light celery, and Clara in white.
The second Lace Bow is a gorgeous spike bow made with vibrant red Evelyn Lace. To create this bow, I followed the instructions for the Spike Bow found HERE.
The third lace bow I created is a Spike Bow but with a simple Bow Tie Bow on top. Again, I followed the instructions for the Spike Bow found HERE and the Bow Tie Bow instructions found HERE.
All of the lace found at The Ribbon Retreat is absolutely beautiful. You can create the same bows I have created, or you can create a whole look of your own. Any bows showcasing our pretty lace will be beeeautiful, fun and a perfect hair accessory for any age.
Lace can be used in a multiple of ways. Check out these other great projects all inspired by lovely lace…
