Hello Ribbon Retreat Bloggers! My name is Angelina and I can be found blogging over at Shoprubyjean.com

I am so very excited to be sharing with you today this…

beautiful ribbon skirt using vintage ribbon.

The Ribbon Retreat offers a great variety of Ribbons to choose from, but I must admit I am a bit partial to their

Vintage Ribbon

Vintage Ribbon Skirt Tutorial

For this particular project I wanted to show the variations of colors giving a Rainbow effect. I used 9 different Vintage Ribbons total. These were my final selection.

034 Forsythia, 060 Julip Green, 061 Reseda, 062 Winter Aqua, 063 Spring Green, 064 Moss Green, 066 Churchill Green, 067 Jungle Green and 073 Lime.

So the first thing I did was,

Laying out the ribbon to know what order you want it on the skirt.

What’s nice about this project is that if you already have an existing skirt that you want to dress up and bring some new life to it, this is a VERY simple way to do just that. Or you can make one from scratch. I went with making a new skirt, using a basic white cotton. I first finished the bottom edge with a Serger and then hemmed.

I pinned and sewed my first bottom ribbon in place being sure to use matching thread.

Pin and sew your ribbon onto your skirt.

Continue this same process with each ribbon.

Continue sewing ribbons up the skirt.

I then gathered the top of the skirt with a ruffle foot on my sewing machine.

Ruffle the top of the skirt.

I wanted a high waistband for this skirt so I cut my piece 6 inches wide, finished the top edge with a serged stitch and pressed over about 1.5 inches and top stitched (be sure to leave an opening for your elastic) then pinned the waistband right side to the right side of the skirt top and sewed then finishing with a serged edge.

Sew your waistband and sew it onto the skirt. Add elastic.

Well I must say that our daughter is THRILLED with her new Vintage Ribbon Skirt.

And she’s not the only one.

I would like to give a Big thank you to The Ribbon Retreat for having me over.

Gorgeous!!! I absolutely love the look of this skirt, and the possibilities are endless! This ribbon won’t bleed when you wash it? Does it need to be pre washed?

Kelly! I asked Angelina and she said she washes it on the Handwashed setting on her machine and the colors did not bleed. I hope this answers your question! – Shirley 🙂
